One way to improve nutrition is to alter the methods one uses in food preparation. Instead of loading up on fried foods, consume foods that has been boiled or steamed. By choosing healthier methods of preparing food, one can ensure good nutrition.

Eat more fruits and vegetables! All the colors of the rainbow are your clue to finding fresh fruits and vegetables that keep you nourished without unnecessary calories. Every meal that you eat should contain a fruit or vegetable at least. Also, eat the skins of the fruits and vegetables if they are edible because most of the nutrients are under the skin.

It is imperative that you use all calories allowed in your daily diet to receive the healthy fuel that you need. Your system will react positively if you consume your calories in foods that are vitamin rich and nutritious, such as vegetables, whole grains and protein. When it comes to diet, quality is as important as quantity.

In many ways, the number five is the key to proper nutrition. Five is how many servings of vegetables and fruit a person should have every day. While that sounds like a too much, serving sizes aren’t as big as you may think. A single 8 ounce glass of 100% orange juice is one full serving.

Try to eat an egg a day, as they are rich in nutrients and provide protein. If you want to avoid cholesterol and fat you can separate the egg white from the yolk and eat only the whites. The benefit of egg whites is that they are nutritional powerhouses without fat or cholesterol.

Change your milk. You can get the smae nutrition in skim and one percent milk as two-percent or whole, just without the calories and fat. If you make it a point to drink healthier versions of milk, you can ensure that your body is at its very best.

Make sure you eat plenty of whole grains. Whole grains are much better for the body than the refined carbs that are so prevalent in diets today. Look for labels that don’t include the word “refined”, and instead say that the item contains 100% whole wheat. Make this a staple in your every day diet. This helps your body get what it needs as well as what is missing from refined carbs.

Have a support system in place to help with your fitness and health goals. It is easier to achieve your goals when you have a buddy rooting you on.

Some people have a hard time maintaining proper nutrition and dieting at the same time. If your comfort foods are unhealthy, you may find yourself gravitating towards them even as you try to improve your diet. However, the more times that you make the healthy choice, the more control you will have over cravings for comfort foods. You eating habits will then be influenced by rational thoughts about nutrition, rather than your emotions.
