Instead of ordering them from your favorite fast food place, bake them yourself at home. Slice some potatoes into fries about 1/2″ wide, then put them in a bowl with a tablespoon of oil. Add salt and pepper (and optionally, rosemary), then put them in the oven and bake them at 400 degrees. Use a spatula to loosen any caked-on fries, turn them over, then bake them for another half hour. They’re really delicious with ketchup, a lot lower in calories and you’ll never miss the deep frying. Always eat a balanced breakfast after you wake up. If you are on the go, you may be tempted to reach for a pastry. However, these items contain lots of empty calories. If instead, you eat some fruit and oatmeal at home in the morning, you will have no excuse to grab a fattening pastry.

Giving yourself small rewards while dieting is good for motivation and what makes a lot of people succeed. Treat yourself to a movie, a message or a little trip to your favorite store. If you’ve lost enough weight to drop a clothing size or two, reward yourself by buying new clothes that highlight your weight loss. This will give you motivation to go even further.

Keep a food journal chronicling what you eat daily when dieting. Studies have shown that people who diet and keep a journal of everything they consume are more likely to continue to lose weight. The fact of the matter is, they lose double the weight of those who do not document consumption.

Make sure your diet consists of lots of healthy foods. If you’re eating nothing but low-calorie foods, you may not be getting enough nutrients. While you may lose some weight, you are actually not creating a healthy body.

Reducing your intake of fatty foods like french fries will not only do wonders for your waistline, it can work miracles on acne and oily skin. Eating high-glycemic foods causes your skin to secrete more oil, which can damage your complexion.

Drinking plenty of water is an important component of a healthy dietary plan. To provide proper hydration to your body, be sure to consume at least eight servings of water each day. In hot weather, you’ll want to drink more. Drinking a bunch of water can keep the digestive system going and you will feel more full.
