A fitness buddy is a great way to stay committed to an exercise and diet regimen. A person who shares similar weight loss goals with exercise and diet can be a very strong motivational tool. If one person’s motivation wanes a bit, the other can help them through the tough times and keep them on the right path.
As you walk through the supermarket, try to stay mainly on the store’s perimeter. This is where the freshest and healthiest foods like veggies and low-fat dairy products reside. The middle aisles are frequently packed with pre-packaged foods, canned foods and salty snacks. These foods offer little or no nutritional value. If you steer clear of those aisles altogether, you will never be tempted.
Avoid bringing junk food into your house. If they aren’t in your house then there will not be a temptation to eat these items whenever your in the kitchen. Rather, keep your home stocked with grab-and-go healthy alternatives. Vegetables and fruits are optimal to keep in your fridge as they will fill you up with essential nutrients.
Eat fruit instead of junk food. If candy, chips and sodas are a part of your usual diet, try eating fruit instead in order to shed pounds and feel good.
It is important to not eat 2 hours before bedtime. If you normally go to sleep around 10pm, avoid eating after 8pm. If you must eat something, just have a piece of fruit or some veggies and some water. Sometimes, you may not stick to this rule, but try to as much as you can. When you sleep, your body stores fat instead of burning calories.
Workout with a friend for fun. By doing this, you not only have someone to keep you company, but to hold you accountable for going to the gym, even when you’re not especially motivated. Your workout may be more efficient thanks to the extra boost of adrenaline you get when working out with a partner.
Eating less red meat is the best way to cut your cholesterol and saturated fat intake. A good way to stretch your consumption of red meat is to use it as the centerpiece of a vegetable-heavy meal; instead of steak and potatoes for dinner, try something like borscht with a few chunks of beef instead. Lean, cubed red meat can be incorporated into your favorite recipes, albeit sparingly.
Give yourself an occasional pat on the back. If you are successful in staying on your diet it is good to reward yourself with a small dessert or glass of wine. Don’t fall prey to the belief that you have suddenly blown your diet. This means that you are doing a wonderful job with losing weight. However, do not constantly reward yourself. This diet is about a lifestyle, not punishing yourself.
It is important to take your time while eating. Try chewing food longer, taking smaller bites and involving yourself in some dinner conversation as you enjoy your meal. If you follow these tips, you’ll feel full sooner and won’t get overly full.
